Students from the Batches of 2021 and 2022 had the remarkable opportunity to participate in an in-depth workshop at the Weaver’s Service Centre. This immersive experience was aimed at enhancing their practical knowledge and understanding of weaving and printing techniques. During the workshop, students were exposed to a wealth of information regarding various facets of textile production.
The Weaver’s Service Centre provided comprehensive insights into the significance of yarn count, explaining its calculation and its crucial role in the weaving process. Students explored the different types of weaves and their applications, gaining a thorough understanding of various weaving patterns. They were also introduced to the entire weaving process, from the initial setup of looms to the execution of intricate techniques, and were able to observe the ongoing weaving activities, which offered real-time insights into the craft.
The workshop also placed significant emphasis on printing techniques. Students were educated on various printing methods, with a particular focus on block printing. They learned about the different types of dyes, the process of making these dyes, and the materials used in dyeing. This theoretical knowledge was complemented by practical sessions where, under the guidance of expert instructors, students applied what they had learned. They were given the chance to create their own block print swatches, which served as valuable references for future projects. Overall, the workshop at the Weaver’s Service Centre was an invaluable experience for the students. It not only provided them with a robust understanding of weaving and printing techniques but also offered hands-on experience that equipped them with the skills and confidence needed to excel in the textile industry. The beautiful block print swatches they developed stand as a testament to their learning and creativity during this enlightening educational endeavor.
